Trustee Bruce Levitan visited Marple Memorial Park on 11 August 2026 with his family. It was a beautiful sunny day. Along the path he spotted a relic of Bottoms Cotton Mill (or Mellor Mill) – the old headstone, which you can see in the photograph below.


Bottoms Mill, also known as Mellor Mill, was a six-storey cotton mill in Marple built by Samuel Oldknow in 1790. As noted on the inscription, it burnt down in 1892. It’s location is shown in the map below (map data from OpenStreetMap).
